Do you constantly feel burnt out?
Is exhaustion your default position?
Are you unsure when you'll get a moment to take a breath simply for yourself?
Well, what if I told you that whether you are an overwhelmed parent, a frazzled business person, or a stressed out teacher, you can:
- Save more energy and use it on the things that mattered?
- Have more time for the things that renewed and fulfilled you?
- Learn to simply enjoy life more (and more often)?
If that sounds good, then you need some INSTANT ZEN. . .
INSTANT ZEN: 5 SIMPLE STEPS TO RECLAIMING YOUR FOCUS, ENERGY, AND PEACE is a mini-course designed to help you shake off the anxiety, stress, and tension of day-to-day life and learn to navigate your existence with a greater sense of simplicity and tranquility using the magic of The 5 S's.
So. . . .What are The 5 S’s?
- Slowing Down
In our culture, stress and tension are par for the course, so if you're a teacher, business person, or parent, I'm willing to bet you could use some help. So let me teach you how to apply each of these magic S's so that you can create more focus, energy, and peace in your life.
A few SMALL steps can lead to HUGE transformations!
ASSESS YOUR STRESS
Let’s face it: We all cope with stress differently. Sometimes it’s a wise idea to take a step back and reflect on how we deal with the tension, anxiety, and overwhelm that life throws at us. Fortunately, we can characterize the ways in which we cope with stress. In fact, I'm guessing one of these profiles sounds like you. .
"I got this. I can handle it. Stress is normal. It’s just another day in The Rat Race. Besides, I have a two week vacation coming up.
Sure, it’s in twenty weeks, but still. . . I’ve got this.
Has anybody seen my blankie?"
"What stress? I’m not stressed. Who says I’m stressed? I’m totally fine. Cool as a cucumber. Just doing my grocery shopping.
OH MY GOD, THEY’RE OUT OF MIRACLE WHIP!!"
::throws watermelon through grocery store window::
No words. You just stand there, paralyzed, eyes glazed over like a deer-in-the-headlights, lurching from bed to work to bed, your silent, rapid blinking like a staccato Morse Code message for help.
An inaudible SOS.
Sure, you sleep--probably too much--but it’s never restful.
Or are you. . .
The Zen Master:
"Wow. I’m feeling some stress right now, but this is temporary and I’m accepting that sometimes things are like this. I’m going to focus on some gratitude, take some things off my calendar, find some time for silence, and set some margins so I can take care of me.
I’m overwhelmed, but I can do something about it. Other people may not understand, but I need to do this for me.
This stress I’m feeling won’t last forever."
::breathes in, breathes out. Takes a walk in nature::
Not quite at Zen Master level yet?
You may need some INSTANT ZEN.
"The 5 S's are so simple, yet so powerful. . .and we need to remind ourselves to practice them. As for Dan, he is amazing. Follow him on social media and read his books. They are life-changing."
-- Mary Vogt, New Hampshire
The truth is: Society doesn’t value ANY of The 5 S’s; therefore, it is up to us to make a PERSONAL commitment to use these key concepts to improve the quality of our lives. No one else is going to do it for us.
Our culture is rigged to keep us going, keep us moving, and keep us distracted by all the pings, alarms, ringtones, and notifications until we don’t know which way is up.
It’s enough to tap your last ounce of energy. Day after day.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
You don’t have to stay busy. You don’t have to do ALL. THE. THINGS.
What if there was a way to slow down and enjoy life on YOUR terms?
And to make room for the things that fulfill YOU?
Well, there is. . .
In Instant Zen, I give you 5 simple steps for creating the life you envision in your most peaceful dreams.
But SIMPLE doesn’t mean EASY.
First, you must give yourself PERMISSION to take care of yourself.
Second, you’ll have to grab INSTANT ZEN to begin the journey toward more focus, energy, and peace.
The thing is: Being still and silent is a choice. Slowing down has to be on purpose.
And yet, creating space in your life in a consumer culture could be perceived as a subversive, rebellious.
You WILL ruffle feathers.
You WILL get some strange looks.
But you know what?
That's okay. Be a rebel.
(Because, let me tell you, being a rebel is kind of sexy.)
And I can show you how to access your inner rebel (a still and calm and peaceful rebel, that is. . . ) in INSTANT ZEN.

Hi, I'm Dan Tricarico. I'm author of The Zen Teacher: Creating Focus, Simplicity, and Tranquility in the Classroom (DBC, Inc. 2015) and Sanctuaries: Self-Care Secrets for Stressed Out Teachers (DBC, 2018). As a high school teacher, I got to a point in my career where I was not only watching excellent teachers around me crash and burn, melt down, and leave the profession, but I was facing certain burnout myself. I had to do something. So I developed The Zen Teacher 5 Step Blueprint and started helping teachers reduce their stress and improve their self-care. But then I realized that the concepts I was teaching worked for EVERYONE! Since using these methods, not only have I renewed my love for teaching, but I no longer worry if I'll make it to retirement. I have learned not only how to survive, but thrive both inside and outside the classroom. In my spare time, I enjoy writing fiction, listening to music (especially Roots Rock and The Blues), reading mystery novels, staring out of windows, and watching movies. One of my first loves is writing poetry, and I have published many poems both in print and on-line.
HOW DO THE 5 S'S WORK?
Stillness. Incorporate stillness into your day so you’re not always on the go and rushing around to meet someone ELSE'S expectations.
Silence. Eliminate the chaos and white noise from your day so you have some quiet time to renew and rejuvenate yourself.
Space. Declutter your life physically, mentally, and philosophically, so that The Universe has more room to bring you the good stuff that you need and want.
Subtraction. Remove those things you no longer want to do, so you have room for what serves you.
Slowing Down. Allow your activities to take the time they take, instead of being a slave to the anxiety that there is another responsibility right around the corner.
How will I find time to include The 5 S’s in my life. I already don’t have time to do everything that needs to be done.
The videos in Instant Zen are only a few minutes a piece and incorporating the skills only takes minutes a day. But the transformational results are exponential.
Aren’t The 5 S’s just more woo-woo, New Age hogwash?
Absolutely not. I give you practical, actionable steps to take and real world examples that can work no matter what your personal circumstances or personal faith system may be. It’s not about religion or spirituality; it’s about quality of life, peace, and happiness.
My mind always races. How can I turn it off enough to be silent and still. I think I’d go nuts. Will this work for me?
Of course it will. Like any new skill, it will take practice, but the bonus presentation called “The Habit Equation” shows you how to make these skills a habit. Plus, you will learn that it’s not about shutting off your thoughts, but learning how to not attach to them.
"Love The 5 S's. The one that resonated with me most was Subtraction. I need to give myself permission to stop doing the things I don't want to do!"
- Nicole Kreiling, Loveland, Colorado
